Pull out the Tents, Light the Bonfire, Gear up for kids camp games, Ignite the Barbeque, Power up the Flash lights, Cuddle up the Kids…

A weekend camping trip with family & friends is a refreshing break for everybody from the daily grind of urban life. So let’s pack up & set the engines rolling for an adventure ride!

Whether one is planning to send their kids on a summer camp, or one is up for an "Extended Family” camping trip to a country side, there is one main item that one should never forget to carry along, rather it should be on the top of the checklist i.e. kids camp games.

Being away from hustle & bustle of city and coming close to nature, camping provides an excellent opportunity for the parents to inculcate love and regards for Mother Nature in their kids as well as help pick up certain skills like listening, observing, stalking, taking precautions etc.

  • Appoint a drummer (not blindfolded) and make him stand at the centre.
  • The drummer will beat the drum loudly & intermittently.
  • The blindfolded kids will try to follow the drum beat and approach the drummer step by step.
  • The drummer has to lower the drum sound as the kids come closer.
  • When a kid reaches the drummer he has to remove his blindfolds and stand behind him.
  • Similarly, other kids will also join him one by one and form a straight line behind the drummer.
  • When all the kids have reached the drummer they all will start an army march.

  • Just ensure that the play area is clear of any hazardous obstacle like pits and fallen branches etc. Trees and bushes will only add spice to this wonderful kids camp game!

Materials Required:

  • Two buckets.
  • Lots of Sponge balls.

How to Play:

  • Find a clear area around the camp.
  • Mark a rectangular play area, around 60x40 steps.
  • Divide it into half and name the halves as “Everest” & “Pacific”.
  • From the center line or dividing line take 6 steps on both the sides and draw another line.
  • Label this area on the both the sides as “Red Zone” that means no player can stand in this zone.
  • Make two teams and let them take one half each.
  • Both the teams will secretly choose their “Commander” and make his identity know to the Referee.
  • Put a bucket filled with water and soaked sponge balls at the center of each half.
  • Each team has to tag the Commander of the other team, whose identity is not known to them, by throwing soaked sponge balls at them.
  • Both teams have to defend their Commander in such a way that his identity remains a secret and at the same time identify and tag the other team’s Commander.
  • The players can take any number of hits on themselves in order to shield their Commander.
  • As none of the players, except the Commander, on both the sides can enter the “Red Zone” this ensure that a minimum gap is always maintained between the two teams.
  • All the players can go out of the outer boundary to fetch the stray balls except the Commander.
  • The referee has to keep a close watch during the entire course of the game and will blow the whistle the moment Commander of a team is hit.
  • The team who has tagged the opponent’s Commander first WINS this cool kids camp game.

My Tip :

  • Besides having fun and beating the heat in the summer camp by throwing water soaked sponge balls at each other, the kids will learn some very fine social skills like team work and coordination.

Hunters & Stalkers

Materials Required:

  • Blue & green flags, 2 each.

  • Before the game starts, hide a “Green Flag” at a fair distance from the camp and a “Blue Flag” in the close proximity to the green flag.
  • The flags can either be hung on a tree or hidden in the bushes.

  • The Blue Stalkers, till that time, will wait inside a tent. So that they cannot see in which direction the Green Hunters have left.
  • Green hunters have to make the directional arrows with the chalk on the trees and rocks for Blue stalkers to follow.
  • Blue Hunters, when their time starts, will have to figure out quickly where the Green Hunters have gone by following the directional arrows marked by them.
  • Both will carry their respective maps with them to reach their target. But Blue Stalkers have no choice except to stalk the Green Hunters till they find their green flag and from that point they can trace their Blue Flag as indicated in the map.
  • The teams after finding their flags have to first, plant the other flag they brought with them on the ground and then rush back to the camp base with the prize flag.
  • The first team (the flag bearer) to return to the camp base is the Winner!!!

My Tip :

  • Play this game in the evening just before dusk. The fun will begin when the teams may want to use their flashlights to read the maps or read the directional arrows but avoiding it so that the opposition may not come to know their location by following the light.
